I don't understand what my freaking problem is. [09 Jul 2005|12:14am]

[ mood | angry ]

I bust my ass working out every single day.

I eat well the whole day until it comes time to go out with friends or something.
I wouldn't normally let myself eat any pizza but since everyone else was going to be eating it, i did.
Although I did get a personal-pan vegetarian pizza with no cheese so that makes it a little better.
And then everyone was eating a cubcake, so i ate a freakin' cupcake.

This has to stop.

I'm ruining the whole thing.

I'll never be able to lose the fat if I keep doing this.

Reason for wanting to take such a journey: I want to become a lot more healthy than I am. As I am a vegetarian, and have had eating problems in the recent past (because of depression) I have become very very anemic. I have decided I want to eat more healthy now, and not always throughout the day.

Top 5 Ways to Kickstart your Health- Content provided by foodfit.com [02 Jul 2005|02:26am]
1. Get Outside
Studies show that 7 out of 10 Americans are inactive in their leisure time. It's never easy to motivate in cold weather, but the days are getting longer, making it much easier to fit in fitness. FoodFit suggests waking up a little earlier and heading to a yoga class or meeting a friend for a walk.

2. Bone Up and Slim Down
Most people know they should be getting enough calcium for strong teeth and bones, but did you know that new research shows this mineral could also help you lose weight? Dairy sources seem to have the greatest effect on weight loss, so make sure to eat three daily servings of low fat dairy products, like yogurt, skim milk, and cheese.

3. Head to the Market
Farmer's markets around the country are opening for business. FoodFit suggests loading up your basket with healthy, farm-fresh, spring ingredients like asparagus, snap peas, rhubarb, and strawberries. Asparagus is rich in folic acid, which is vital for the development of a healthy fetus and has also been shown to be important for heart health.

4. Keep Portions in Check
Portions in restaurants and even at home have grown in the last decade, contributing to our expanding waistlines. Keep standard serving sizes in mind when eating at home and dining out. FoodFit's registered dietitians suggest asking for a doggie bag or splitting an entrée with a friend. Some serving sizes to keep in mind are:

A serving of cooked meat, poultry or fish is 3 ounces--about the size of a deck of cards.

A ½ cup of cooked pasta or rice is a serving. It’s about the size of half a baseball.

A serving of cheese is 1 ½ ounces. An ounce of cheese looks like 4 dice.

5. Get to a Healthy Weight
Like many Americans, you're probably facing the battle of the bulge. Losing weight is challenging, but FoodFit's Health Team suggests making small changes that will add up to big results. Cutting saturated and trans fat and refined carbohydrates from your diet are healthy changes that'll help you lose weight.

Being Vegetarian for Dummies says... [02 Jul 2005|02:03am]

"If you are trying to lose weight, you'll need to cut your calorie intake. You need a deficit of about 3,500 calories a week to lose a pound per week." That's 500 calories per day that you need to cut out. "At the same time as you are cutting calorie intak, you should be increasing your level of physical activity- the number of calories you burn. In fact, the more physically active you can be, the better. If you can burn more calories through exercise, you wont have to cut your calorie intake as much."

I think that you can go to self.com to determine your personal calorie needs.

Calculate it yourself:

Multiply your weight by a factor of 13 to 16: 13 if you're sedentary, 14 if your daily activities keep you on your feet or you work out a couple times a week, 15 if you're a gym regular, 16 if you're extremely active. The product is the number of calories you need daily to maintain your weight.

To lose a pound a week, SELF magazine recommends that you eat 250 fewer calories per day (but don't go below 1200) and add 250 calories of exercise daily.
